A lampshade designed on a bicycle? Yes, I know it’s strange but it’s true.
On a short cycling break in Tuscany with my sister’s family, we were riding through ancient villages, passed olive groves and vineyards, along lanes lined with cypress trees.
My family got really frustrated with me for continually stopping along the route to take photographs, making them wait. “I’m designing a lampshade” I explain “There are six panels, I need six views”. They were all very patient.
The hilltop village was the one where we had our lunch. One panel features a monastery with a bell tower and an olive grove. Another panel shows an old winery with small vineyard, all linked with views of curving lines of cypress and hornbeam trees, set along the edges of ploughed fields of red Tuscan soil.
