‘Stained glass panel’1970

The Batik process leaves the cloth impregnated with wax, making the work translucent like stained glass.
This is a copy of a small stained glass panel found in an old house porch door, which I made in my first ‘studio’ set up in the stern of my Thames barge home. There were buckets catching rainwater, water in the bilges and plastic in all the windows. It was a case of working in gloves and boots in the winter but I was young and hardy in those days.
