Poplands is situated on the edge of a lovely rural village in Herefordshire. Once a large working farm, its historic buildings, an oast house, a threshing barn, the original old farmhouse and many smaller barns, are now all converted into separate dwellings.
I was originally commissioned to create a portrait of just the threshing barn in the centre but I wanted to place it in its natural setting, to show how it belongs to the whole of Poplands Farm. So the finished work ended up a lot bigger than planned but luckily the barn has very big walls to display it!
I did it during the 2020 lockdown when my time was very much my own, so I had all the time in the world to indulge myself. It’s a piece of work that was a challenge and a pleasure and one I’m really proud of.
This short film using time-lapse photography, shows the making of ‘Poplands’ from the original drawing through all its stages to the finished work.
