‘Pendle Hill with Cows’1984
The shape of Pendle Hill dominates the countryside around Whalley in Lancashire. This autumn scene with cows grazing was actually, quite by chance, instrumental in the birth of my best-selling paperweights.
My friend who runs the local craft shop had been doing some embroidery to mount in a glass paperweight. That day I had called by with a book of photographs of my latest window hangings to show her and while we were chatting, I casually put the glass blank down on the photograph of ‘Pendle Hill with Cows’ – the rest is history! The following year, I exhibited a large range of paperweights, made from photographs of window hangings, at my first Trade Show at Harrogate – the show which launched my commercial career.
