14" x 10" including frame
This was a Batik done for one of my very first greetings cards which I exhibited at the Harrogate Craft Trade Fair.
First I did a graded colour wash with pinks and terracottas for the sunset sky, becoming lighter at the horizon. I then waxed in the sky in between the branches of the tree. Then I screwed up the waxed cloth and worked the black dye into the cracks in the wax, to get the twigs. Quite a lot of wax falls off in this process but it doesn’t matter. It gives a really natural ‘twiggy’ look.
